April 20, 2007 – The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has approved 41 sports in principle for the 2010 Asian Games, with cricket being the latest sport to be proposed by the Guangzhou Asian Games. Organizing Committee. If everything receives final approval, the Guangzhou Games in 2010 will feature the highest number of sports in the history of the Asian Games. It will be the first time that cricket has been played at the Asian Games.
The 16th Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou November 12-27 in 2010. Of the 41 sports up for consideration for the Games, 13 sports are not on the Olympic roster but are recognized by the OCA. The proposed non-Olympic sports are bowling, chess, cricket, cuesports, dancesport, dragon boat , golf, kabaddi, karate, rugby, sepak takraw, squash and wu shu.
The OCA General Assembly met in Kuwait earlier this week and was updated on the sports programme and other logistical matters by officials of the 2010 Games Organizing Committee.
