April 21, 2009 – With about 600 days to the Asian Games 2010, the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) embarked on a "Road of Asia" Programme across all the Asian countries to obtain a stamp of approval.
The "Road of Asia" is a programme where a GAGOC delegation visits all the National Olympic Councils (NOCs) in Asia to obtain visa stamps. The programme aims to build a special and unprecedented platform participated by all Asians, which is crucial for carrying forward the Olympic and Asian Games spirits and promoting the unity, friendship and communications among the Asian countries. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is confident that this programme will help the OCA’s objective of developing understanding and friendship throughout the continent.
A delegation comprising 8 officials and 6 media personnel, led by Ms Hua Xinfang, Deputy Secretary-General, The Road of Asia Organising Committee, visited the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) on 21 April 2009. The delegation came by road from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and flew to Brunei after two days in Singapore. The SNOC Vice-Presidents Dr Tan Eng Liang and Mr Low Teo Ping, Secretary-General Chris Chan and Assistant Secretary-General Edmund Lim and staff from SNOC hosted the delegation.
The delegation briefed on the preparations of the 2010 Asian Games. On behalf of the SNOC, Vice President Low thanked the delegation for the visit and said that he was confident that Guangzhou would put up a good show at the Games. He represented Singapore in putting the SNOC stamp onto the official GAGOC document.
The SNOC wishes the delegation a safe journey across Asia and GAGOC a successful 2010 Asian Games.
