Dawn Liu Xiao Dan

Dawn Liu is a 19 year-old sailor who has sailed from the age of 11. She has a proven track record in competitive sailing, gaining extensive international competition exposure in the Optimist Class before moving on to the 420 class with much success. In her first international 420 regatta, she came in 3rd in the 2004 Australian Youth Championships and in the same year, 5th in the ISAF Youth World Championships.

Dawn, paired with Siobhan Tam, had an extremely successful 2005 by winning the Australian Youth Championship, emerging in the top 20% of the ISAF Grade 1 Kiel Week event, as the top Asian girl competitor in the ISAF Youth World Championship and as the gold medalist in the SEA Games 420 girls event with 2 races to spare.

Dawn’s performance at international youth and open regattas clearly demonstrates her talent in sailing and her potential to be competitive at the Olympic level in the coming years. Dawn has committed herself to the Olympics in 2008 and potentially 2012 in the 470 Class, where she will be in her peak sailing years. She has also committed to having her educational pursuits take a back-seat to her sailing ambitions.
