OLYMPIC GAMES 2004, ATHENS (13 TO 29 AUG 2004)

Ms Annabel Pennefather, Vice President of Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) has been appointed as Chef de Mission of the Singapore contingent.

Ms Pennefather represented Singapore in Hockey from 1964 to 1980. She was the president of the Singapore Women’s Hockey Association for 11 years and was elected as the vice president of the Singapore Hockey Federation in 1992.

In 1996, Ms Pennefather was appointed a member of the Singapore Sports Council. In 1999, she became first female member of the Singapore National Olympic Council and was elected vice president in 2002. She was also the first female Chef de Mission when she was appointed for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games.

She initiated and chaired the Singapore Women and sports Conference in March 1999 and started the Women and sport group to actively promote activities to increase the participation of girls and women in sports. She was awarded the Sporting Singapore Inspiration Special Contribution Award in 2003
