The SNOC is pleased to be part of the multi-agency committee leading Singapore’s bid for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2010. This would be an excellent opportunity for Singapore to play a global role in inspiring the younger generation to take up sport and to experience the spirit of the Olympic Games.
2. “The SNOC supports the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision to introduce the YOG as a platform to shape a generation of young elite athletes to uphold the Olympic values. Youth from all over the world can interact, discuss the Olympic values, and more importantly live them every day while at the games,” said Mr Teo Chee Hean, President of the SNOC.
3. Singapore youth, both within the sporting community and beyond, are excited about the bid. Youth.sg - Singapore’s portal managed by youth for youth - has set up a dedicated website http://www.yog.youth.sg/ where youth can give ideas and suggestions on the YOG.
4. Commenting on Singapore’s decision to bid for the inaugural YOG in 2010, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said, “Singapore is ready to deliver a high quality and enjoyable Youth Olympic Games in 2010.
