Sailing 420 Team
- Justin Liu Xiaman
- Sherman Cheng Feng Yuan
For sailors, Justin Liu and Sherman Cheng, 2007 was certainly a year to remember. They ended the year on a high note, beating 80 other teams in December to emerge champions in their event at the Australian National Championships in Melbourne.
It was their second triumph that month - the first being their impressive win in the 420 event at the SEA Games in Thailand. Earlier in the year, they already showed their fine form with impressive results. For example, they were masters of their craft with their win in the 420 Junior European Event Championships in Holland.
Their success was no surprise as the duo, who have a common sports hero in Australian sailor Nathan Outteridge, shot to prominence by winning gold in the 420 event at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha.
Given their youth, the boys, both 17, are expected to scale even greater heights in the coming years. Their recognition as Singapore's Sportsboy/Sportsgirl Team of the Year (Event) can only spur them on as they strive for success.
