Singapore's
quest for its 21st consecutive waterpolo gold medal ended on a happy
note at the 2005 SEA Games in the Philippines as the ever faithful
players delivered yet again. But it wasn't just the gold that stood
out. It was the way the team fought back, winning 7-6 after trailing
the Philippines in a close match.
Made up of students and working adults who had to manage training
despite the demands of studies and careers respectively, the team
- a combination of youth and experience - showed true grit to overcome
the obstacles in their path.
Beyond the SEA Games, the quest for Asian success has become really
challenging with the inclusion of countries which were once part
of the former Soviet Union in the Asian Games. Still, one can count
on the waterpolo team to keep trying. |
